Hey all I am interested in creating my own 'reset password' program in order to help users reset their password if they forget it. Just like a 'Self Service' type of thing for the users. I've been googling and havent really found a step-by-step of how to go about doing this. Mostly ive just seen posts saying GINA is not used any longer and to use Credential Provider now. Is it all C based that needs to be created in order to display that custom link with a custom C# form for the reset or can I hook into it's C dll and use c# to code it all?

Windows 10 v1803 includes official support for AAD SSPR at the lock screen for hybrid domain joined computers, in. The Windows Logon Integration provides self service Offline Reset capability for users who are working offsite, disconnected from the domain, or just completely offline. Since this is web-based password reset software, UNIX and Apple end-users can access the same reset process using any web browser. The Windows Logon screen integration supports. How to access the self-service Portal? In the bottom-left corner, tap Scan QR Code link in the home screen. Open web browser and login to self-service portal. [You can also click on either the Reset Password or Unlock account button]. Click Mobile Access button.

So if anyone on this site has done this already with Windows 10 Enterprise version them please do comment and list the steps I need to take in order to accomplish what I'm looking to do! My flow (start): User clicks on the 'Forgot Password?

A bonus would be me being able to, after they put in their new password, is to place that new password into the password textbox itself after they close out of that form. 1) Such a feature as the OP describes could be done securely by using the Azure AD Self Service Password Reset functionality. The link would just need to open a form connected to the AAD SSPR page/service. It probably shouldn't actually open a browser window to that page though, as that could open up a lot of extra attack surface. It would need to be a windows form which communicates with the SSPR service.
2) This was actually implemented as a feature in Windows 10 v1709, but the way it was implemented severely limits it's functionality for Active Directory joined machines. It's most useful for machines joined to AzureAD only. I know that TDavidG was looking to write a custom program for password resets, but since I mentioned the AzureAD SSPR stuff previously, I thought I'd post a quick update.
Windows 10 v1803 includes official support for AAD SSPR at the lock screen for hybrid domain joined computers, in addition to the previously released support for computers that are only AzureAD Joined. If you have AzureAD Premium, this is a fairly straightforward feature to set up, with no custom coding required. Just turn on SSPR in AzureAD and tell it what kind of security verification methods to use, then to add the lock screen link either add a configuration profile to intune, or if your computers are not intune managed push out a registry key to all computers.
Full documentation on the feature is available here: I'm just wrapping up my initial testing of the feature, and am very happy with it. I hope to get it in the hands of a small group of users in the next couple of weeks, and then to all users sometime in July.
